I haven’t included smaller appliances such as a juicer, toaster, or blender. These are typically in the $100 price range but can be MUCH more expensive depending on the quality. But, these aren’t permanent parts of a kitchen so I haven’t included them in these costings.
Cost of Brand New Kitchen Cabinets
Cabinets are a bit different from the other measurements because they only go on two walls typically. Therefore, they’re measured in what’s called linear feet. This is the length of both walls.
A 10×10 kitchen is 10 feet by 10 feet (3 meters by 3 meters). This is 100 sq feet (9 square meters). But, is 20 linear feet (6 meters).
Here’s a table that shows the total cost of the just the cabinets in a kitchen remodel:
Labor & Cost of Cabinets | Cost |
---|---|
Cost of cabinets | $4,000 to $13,000 |
Labor installation (15 hours work) | $2,000 to $5,600 |
Total | $6,000 to $18,600 |
The cost of cabinets varies based on the quality of the materials used for the cabinets and the design. Some cabinets have a particularly appealing look. This can increase the perceived value of a home.
At the end of this article, I’ll cover what areas offer the best bang for your buck in a kitchen remodel, according to expert re-modelers.
Here’s how you get to the costings of the above table:
- The cost per linear foot for cabinets is on average $100-$280.
- The cost of labor to install cabinets is $60 to $90 an hour.
- It typically takes about 15 hours to install all the cabinets for a 10×10 kitchen, or $150-$380 per linear foot.
These numbers were used to calculate the total cost above of $6,000 to $18,600
Cost for New Floors
With flooring, the price differs a lot based on the type of flooring you want. Tiles or hardwood floors are the gold standard. But, other options can be OK.
For example, polished concrete can be good for a home that has an industrial-style architecture. Here’s a table that shows how much you can expect to pay based on the material.
All prices are to have the floor fully installed:
Type of Flooring | Cost per Square Foot (installation) | Cost of Total Floor (100 sq ft) |
---|---|---|
Ceramic or porcelain tile | $8 $30 | $800 to $3,000 |
Vinyl or linoleum | $3 to $10 | $300 to $1000 |
Polished concrete | $3 to $15 | $300 to $1,500 |
Laminate | $6 to $9 | $600 to $900 |
Hardwood | $10 to $18 | $1,000 to 1,800 |
Cost for New Lighting
A good lighting setup can really make a difference to the feel of a space. And there’s a minimum amount of lighting you should consider based on the amount of square footage you have:
For a 10×10 kitchen, you need a minimum of 3 lights:
- A single light costs $200 per fixture on average
- 3 lights for a 10×10 kitchen = $600
- The cost to install the new light fixture is $100 to $480 per fixture
$600 for the light fixtures + installation that costs $300 to $1440 total. Means the total cost to install new light fixtures = $900 to $2,040.
Cost to Paint the Walls and Ceiling
The walls and the ceiling will need to be painted in most cases. It’s common to install a backsplash on one or both walls that have the cabinets. But to paint the walls, here’s how much it will cost:
- $1 to $2 per square foot
- 10 feet long, 9 feet high = $90 to $180 per wall
- 2 walls, $180 to $360
- 3 walls, $270 to $540
- 4 walls, $360 to $720
And for the ceiling:
- Ceiling = $200 to $400
- 2 walls and the ceiling is $380 to $760
- 3 walls and the ceiling is $470 to $940
- 4 walls and the ceiling is $560 to $1,120
Therefore, the total price to paint a 10×10 kitchen is on average, $380 to $1,120.
Tiling the Backsplash – A Good Place to Invest
The backsplash is required for behind the sink, and behind the stove. The reason is grease and grime from cooking, and water splashes can damage and discolor the wall. The average cost to tile a backsplash is:
- $25 to $45 per square foot
- Based on the area of a backsplash it costs on average a $2250 to $4050
That’s based on tiling the entire wall behind the stovetop and the sink. However, it’s possible to have a backsplash that only goes partway up the wall. And this can reduce the cost by 50% to 75%.
Cost of New Countertops
A high-quality countertop is one of the most seen parts of a kitchen. Therefore, it makes a big difference what material you use for them. For a 10×10 kitchen here’s a table that shows the cost per square meter. And the cost for all of the countertops.
Type of Countertop | Cost per sq ft (0.1 sq meters) | Cost of all Countertops |
---|---|---|
Marble | $75 to $250 | $3375 to $11250 |

Wood or butchers block | $55 to $200 | $2475 to $9000 |
Reclaimed wood | $115 to $300 | $5175 to $13500 |
Porcelain | $60 to $100 | $2700 to $4500 |
Tile | $18 to $35 | $810 to $1575 |
Laminate | $15 to $40 | $100 to $200 |
The average price range is $100 to $13500. But, this includes laminate which is extremely cheap compared to other countertops. This also doesn’t include the cost of installation which runs about $1000.
If you take away laminate, and also add the cost of labor then the average cost for the countertop is $1810 to $14500.
These prices are based on covering 15 linear feet. Which is 75% of both walls, accounting for the fridge and the stovetop. A countertop with plenty of room is 3 feet wide (1 meter).
This makes the total countertop area 45 sq ft. It’s possible to have an island in a 10×10 kitchen too. Here’s a video that shows some interesting designs:
If you do want to have an island in your 10×10 kitchen expect to pay an additional 40% to 50% for the total cost of the countertops.

Remodeling Task | Cost |
---|---|
Ripping out everything | $1,000 to $3,000 |

Therefore, if you get the best deals on your 10×10 kitchen remodel you can expect to pay $15670. But, if you want the best quality then about $50,000 and above is a reasonable price.
The highest-priced parts of a kitchen remodel are the cabinets and the countertops. And the cheapest are painting the walls and the flooring.
Best Place to Spend on Kitchen Remodel to Increase Value of Home
If you’re looking for the best bang for your buck in the kitchen remodel, and want to spend more on the bits that will increase the value of your home the most, expert remodelers recommend spending extra on two areas:
- The countertops
- The backsplash
There are a range of different countertop designs. For example, you can get a countertop that goes over the edge and down to the floor. They say that spending an extra $5000 on a custom countertop can add $20,000 to the resale value of a home.
The same is true of a high-quality backsplash. Especially one with unique-looking tiles, and tiles that go all the way up the wall. While it’s not a guarantee, these are the areas that they recommend spending extra money.
How Much It Costs To Install 10×10 Kitchen Cabinets
Kitchen cabinets are the most expensive parts of doing a kitchen remodel. But, it’s a good idea to know how much is reasonable to spend on cabinets for a 10×10 kitchen. Here’s some ballpark figures for both the labor and the cost of the cabinets.
On average, it costs $6,000 to $18,600 to install cabinets in a 10×10 kitchen. The average cost of the cabinets is $4,000 to $13,000, and the average cost of labor is $2,000 to $5,600. The labor typically takes 15 hours total. The cost of the cabinets varies depending on the quality.
The cost of kitchen cabinets accounts for roughly 30% of the total cost of a kitchen remodel. It’s important to note that this is an average price. Depending on the specific State/city that you live in dramatically increases or decreases the price. However, this is balanced out by average income, and living costs.
Can You Put an Island in a 10×10 Kitchen
As mentioned earlier, a 10×10 kitchen is plenty big enough to be very roomy. An island is a really nice feature in a kitchen and allows you more space to prepare food, and eat or drink in the kitchen. But, is it possible to put an island in a 10×10 kitchen?
As a general rule, it’s possible to put an island in a 10×10 kitchen. An island fits very well in a 10×10 kitchen. However, it does limit walking room to around 3 feet (1 meter) between the island and the countertops.
An island can dramatically improve the functionality of the space. It’s also very good if you have friends and family over because it can provide another area to eat meals.
